Clark Atlanta University (CAU) received a National Science Foundation (NSF) ADVANCE Program Leadership award entitled Women Faculty in STEM Fields: The HBCU Baseline Study. This award will permit the university to conduct a one-year baseline study on the status of women faculty in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) across the nation. The CAU NSF ADVANCE Leadership Project will provide documentation of the rank and number of tenured and non-tenured STEM women faculty presently at HBCUs. This will be the first of other efforts to stimulate discussion and identify programs necessary among HBCUs to foster greater gender equity, while identifying and disseminating information on programs which will improve the recruitment, retention, promotion and tenure among STEM women faculty.
